![]() ![]() Personal reflection allows you to consider the consequences of your words and actions. When we’re in a reactive mode, we don’t take the necessary time to consider our actions and words. This can lead to us saying and doing things we regret. Most of the time, we simply react to whatever circumstances come our way. It allows you to process events and achieve clarity on them. Self-reflection allows you to take a step back and gain perspective on what matters and what can be ignored. ![]() Some things seem bigger and worse than they truly are. It Allows You To Gain PerspectiveĮmotions can cloud your judgment and you can lose sight of what truly matters. Nevertheless, there are numerous wonderful benefits of self-reflection and we should all make time for it. It can be challenging to take the necessary time to step back and reflect on what truly matters. Yes, taking time for self-reflection can be difficult. We end up doing the same things over and over again, even if those things aren’t producing the results we had hoped for. We feel like we’re simply trying to keep our heads above water. The unfortunate result is that we often get stuck.įor example, a lack of personal reflection may lead us to stay in a job we don’t like or a relationship that isn’t going well.Ī lack of reflection causes us to simply keep running, trying to keep up with things even if things aren’t going well. To determine what is going well and what isn’t working. Without self-reflection, we simply go through life without thinking, moving from one thing to the next without making time to evaluate whether things are actually going well. Practicing self-reflection takes discipline and intentionality. It's about tapping into every aspect of the experience, clarifying our thinking, and honing in on what really matters to us." This is because I now feel like I understand and can embrace the Creeds and Sacraments that are so important to the Catholic faith."Reflection is a deeper form of learning that allows us to retain every aspect of any experience, be it personal or professional - why something took place, what the impact was, whether it should happen again - as opposed to just remembering that it happened. The water made God alive and real at that moment in my life and it symbolised the beginning of my life as a new person.Īfter studying this unit, I now feel more confident in being able to teach in a Catholic school if I was given the opportunity. ![]() I could hear the words being said and when I rose up out of the water I was a stronger and a newer person. I could see, hear and feel the water all around me. I have been christened and remember the event clearly in my mind as I was 16 and chose for it to happen. The symbolic factor of water is not lost on me. The sacraments make you feel closer to God they make God visible and fill you with the Holy Spirit.īaptism is the first Sacrament and symbolic of starting a new life with God. After researching more about the sacraments, I can see why these important traditions full of symbols and rituals are so important to a Catholic person. To an outsider looking in, Catholic practices seemed strange and old fashioned. What I have learnt whilst undertaking the making of this resource is that there is a lot of meaning behind the traditions in Catholic faith. Furthermore, Everything about the ceremony is meaningful, from the priest clothes to the words said and hymns sung, which encapsulates the sacramentality of the event. Being baptised as a baby I didn't get to appreciate the true meaning of baptism or feel the significance of the event. Through the sacraments we are reminded that even though the world is filled with temptations and wrong doings, we are instilled with the knowledge of goodness and happiness through the Holy Spirit and Christ.We must not despair in the act of sin, as being human is to be sinful, however, its how we repent, forgive and improve that keeps the Holy Spirit alive within us.Īlso the baptismal ceremony is filled with sacred and meaningful symbols that adds to the essence of the sacred presence received during baptism. The theme of baptism is all about the cleansing of sin, for us to resist temptation and evil, to find God and rejoice in being good and sharing love. At times we may not connect deeply with this presence, but through receiving the Holy sacrament of Baptism, the Holy Spirit will always remain in us. The essence of the Holy Spirit received during Baptism is with us throughout our life. What I've learnt through this experience is that religious sacraments are sacred for life. ![]()
